For the eighth year, the Ohio Domestic Violence Network has compiled a report with the numbers from media reports of intimate-partner relationship fatalities identified by staff and member programs. The count includes targeted victims, perpetrators, and others who were present when the fatalities occurred.

Domestic Violence Fatalities Tracked in Ohio
Domestic Violence is a National Issue

The sobering statistics from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence emphasizes the urgency of our mission. On average, almost 20 people per minute endure physical abuse at the hands of an intimate partner in the United States. Over the course of a year, this figure surpasses 10 million women and men. Each day, domestic violence hotlines across the nation receive over 20,000 calls, with intimate partner violence accounting for 15% of all violent crimes.

Victims Aren't Just Women

It’s important to dispel the misconception that domestic violence exclusively affects women. In reality, the gender distribution is more evenly balanced, with 15 to 20% of abuse cases involving men. Moreover, children suffer the repercussions, even if they are not direct victims of violence. Shockingly, 1 in 15 children is exposed to intimate partner violence each year, with 90% of these children bearing witness to such traumatic events.
